Trading Basics

Learn about spreads, trading hours, stop-loss orders and how margin levels affect your open positions.

Trading hours depend on the market opening and the traded financial instrument. Please check the respective asset specifications.

The spread is the difference between the ask price (buying) and the bid price (selling)

The Stop Out level is the margin level at which open positions are automatically closed due to a lack of available margin. The Stop Out level on our MT4 and MT5 platform is set to 100%.

The Margin is the minimum amount required to open a new position.

When this level is reached a notification appears on the screen to warn the Trader that the margin level is getting near the Stop Out level.

The Margin Call level on our platform is 120%.

When your margin level is between 120% and 100% you can only close your open positions and you cannot open new positions.

A stop-loss order automatically closes your trade when it reaches a certain price level, helping to manage your risk

The overnight swap or financing rate is an interest rate credited or debited to the trading account in order to hold a trading position overnight.

Yes, the swap overnight is applied once per day during rollover time.

As swap values are updated on a daily basis, the best way to check them is to look at the symbol specification within the MT4/MT5 platform; just right click on each instrument and select “specifications” on the drop down menu.

Dividends

When trading CFDs on shares or indices, dividend payments may result in a credit or debit to your trading account depending on your position.

Yes. If you hold a long position, your account may be credited. If you hold a short position, your account may be debited.

These adjustments help maintain pricing fairness, as the underlying market reflects the dividend payout.

Dividend adjustments are based on the official dividend declared by the underlying asset and are reflected automatically in your MT4/MT5 account.

To find the most accurate dividend information, we recommend:

  • Visiting the official websites of stock exchanges (e.g., Nasdaq Dividend Calendar)

  • Checking the Investor Relations sections on the official websites of listed companies

These sources regularly publish dividend announcements and payment details.

When one or more companies in an index (e.g., S&P 500 or Dow Jones 30) pay dividends, it impacts the index price. Key to Markets adjusts your account as follows:

  • Long positions on the index receive a credit

  • Short positions are debited

The adjustment reflects the total dividend impact across the index constituents.

If you hold a stock CFD position:

  • Long position: Your account will be credited with the dividend amount

  • Short position: Your account will be debited

The adjustment reflects the full dividend declared by the company, adjusted for any applicable tax or broker-specific factors.

The amount you receive or pay depends on:

  • The number of dividend-paying stocks in the index

  • Their respective weights in the index

  • The index type (e.g., capitalization-weighted or price-weighted)

  • Whether your position is long or short

Key to Markets will process an adjustment within your MT4/MT5 account: a credit in case you hold a long position, a debit in case you hold a short position. Key to Markets may or may not inform you in advance about dividends details, as you are supposed to be informed about such market events, just like stocks splits, macroeconomic news releases and so on.
